Bear Cub Found in Golconda Backyard
She’s only 10 weeks old and already a handful.But Gracie, a black bear cub, is adjusting to her new home at Animal Ark Wildlife Sanctuary near Reno.
The cub was brought to the nature center three weeks ago after being found in a backyard east of Winnemucca.
State wildlife officials said someone in Elko bought the bear from a licensed entity in Utah, then sold it illegally to a resident in Golconda. Charges are pending.
“They don’t even make good pets at this age, much less when they’re 200 to 300 pounds,” said Carl Lackey, a biologist with the Nevada Department of Wildlife.
